Cave Ridge Vineyard will be joining us this year at the August 5, 2018 Wine and Oyster Festival On Sunny Slope Farm in support of the Artisan Center of Virginia. Come on out to taste their wine as well as wine from 10 other Shenandoah Valley Virginia Wineries.

Cave Ridge Vineyard is a family-owned and operated vineyard and winery located in the foothills overlooking the Shenandoah Valley, which is world-renowned for its scenic beauty and history. Low rainfall and deep rocky soils make this an ideal location for growing the highest quality grapes used to make Cave Ridge wines.

The tasting room was opened in 2005 by owners Randy and Karen Phillips. Soon after opening, the estate-grown Virginia wines acquired a loyal following. Their daughter, Megan, later joined Cave Ridge Vineyard as the business manager.

Bluestone Vineyard

Bluestone Vineyard will be joining us this year at the August 5, 2018 Wine and Oyster Festival On Sunny Slope Farm in support of the Artisan Center of Virginia. Come on out to taste their wine as well as wine from 10 other Shenandoah Valley Virginia Wineries.

Bluestone Vineyard is a family owned and operated vineyard and winery, committed to crafting small-batch wines from locally sourced and estate grown fruit that showcase the very best in each varietal and each vintage. The result is a wine selection that constantly evolves to reflect the passion of the winemaker, the year, the weather, and the fruit.

Our Bluestone wines are produced here at the vineyard, in our winery, located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.  These Virginia wines are aged either in barrels in our climate controlled barrel room or in stainless steel tanks where the temperature is computer controlled to give us the optimal conditions to develop the wine.  We then bottle the wines onsite and place them in climate controlled storage behind the tasting room.

Narmada Winery

Narmada Winery will be joining us this year at the August 5, 2018 Wine and Oyster Festival On Sunny Slope Farm in support of the Artisan Center of Virginia. Come on out to taste their wine as well as wine from 10 other Shenandoah Valley Virginia Wineries.

Narmada Winery was established in Rappahannock County, VA in 2009. Owners Pandit and Sudha Patil had a long-standing dream to own a vineyard one day.

Sudha and Pandit at first intended only to grow the fruit to provide to other Virginia vintners. But Sudha’s curiosity about the winemaking process grew, and she began reading everything she could on how to vinify wine. As her interest increased, she commenced studies with Jim Law of Linden Vineyards, one of Virginia’s premier winemakers. Today Sudha refers to Jim as “the guru of Virginia wine.”

The combination of art and science is a given in making wine. Sudha Patil’s competence in both areas has made Narmada Winery something special right from the start. With attention to using the best quality grapes, diligent sorting of the berries, and maintaining proper chemistry of acidity and pH, Sudha’s medical background ensures clean processing of the fruit from harvest through the aging process.

Sudha’s knowledge of complex spices acquired during her childhood in India enable her to coax latent flavors from her grapes that perhaps would be overlooked by others. Her focus is to create graceful wines that are a true reflection of the fruit and to produce Virginia wines of the highest possible quality.

Castle Glen Estates Farm and Winery will be joining us this year at the August 5, 2018 Wine and Oyster Festival On Sunny Slope Farm in support of the Artisan Center of Virginia. Come on out to taste their wine as well as wine from 10 other Shenandoah Valley Virginia Wineries.

Born out of our love of fine wines and delicious food, Castle Glen Estates Farm and Winery has become the premiere boutique winery for the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in Virginia. After traveling the world and sampling Cabernet from the old world and the new, we decided to make our way back home and bring the world to you.

In the world of wine, it is said that “Cab is King.” Yet, less than 20% of the Virginia Grape crop is Cabernet Sauvignon.  Our biggest challenge was finding the right, high-quality vines for the wine we wanted to make. Hence, our small vineyard was planted. We are dedicated to offering only the finest Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wine in Virginia. We have also taken great care in assembling a team to provide only the best vineyard management and wine making available.

Come and taste the experience for yourself.

“There is absolutely no substitute for the best. Good wine cannot be made of inferior ingredients masked with high flavor. It is true thrift to use the best ingredients available and to waste nothing.” – James Beard

Smiley's Ice Cream | 2018 Wine and Oyster Festival Culinary Pairing

Smiley’s Ice Cream will be joining us this year at the August 5, 2018 Wine and Oyster Festival On Sunny Slope Farm in support of the Artisan Center of Virginia. Come on out to taste their ice cream as well as wine from 11 other Shenandoah Valley Virginia Wineries.

Traditional ice cream, or “porch ice cream” as we like to refer to it, is at the heart of what we do. It’s the ice cream many people grew up making on their porches at home with lots of ice and salt and their own homemade recipes. Ice cream that focuses on quality ingredients and flavor, and is not as concerned with how much overrun (air) is in the ice cream. After all, air has no flavor the last time I checked.

We began with the simple idea that we would make our ice cream the same way I grew up making it as a kid on my parent’s back porch. So we did, putting flavor and quality ingredients at the forefront, and it became a popular hit that developed into a mobile business. We could make the flavors of ice cream that customers wanted, the old fashioned way, with original wooden bucket ice cream freezers and only the freshest ingredients right at their event in a 12′ enclosed trailer that’s regulated and inspected by the health department.

In the winter of 2015, we added a new 20′ trailer to our business that allows us to make our great recipes in commercial modern batch freezers. This allows us to use the same great recipes that our customers have come to love, make any quantity of ice cream that our customers want, make bulk quantities of ice cream at an affordable cost, and allows us to operate our business in a more environmentally friendly way as the new batch freezers don’t create the salt water waste that is created in making the ice cream the traditional way.

Our newest trailer allows us to bring the services of an ice cream shop right to the customers location. It was designed with the customer in mind, as we have learned a lot since 2001 about what customers want. We can serve from the trailer, or lay down the back of the trailer to bring the equipment into the event that we’re serving at. We can serve 800 people down to 50 people from the same trailer.

In the summer of 2017 we opened our first brick and mortar ice cream shop. This shop will provides us with a retail and wholesale store, a stable environment to produce our great ice cream, indoor and outdoor seating for customers, and adequate freezer and refrigerator storage for our products and supplies. Our shop space is still a “work in progress” as we continue to add products and services that our customers are requesting.

Our business will now offer both the reliability of a storefront and the services that only a mobile ice cream trailer can offer. It’s this flexibility, and love of making great quality ice cream, that backs our motto of “Bringing happiness to you one scoop at a time!”
