What is a minimony?
A minimony is a small wedding ceremony that includes a few of your most dear loved ones. It can also just be a commitment ceremony with just you and your spouse. We are all very aware that we live in uncertain times. In general and especially given the health concerns centering around the coronavirus pandemic. Many couples have postponed their weddings altogether. But others are considering moving forward with mini ceremonies, now defined as minimonies, for a range of reasons.
A minimony differs from an elopement because a sequel wedding is planned at a later date for all the family and friends to gather again to celebrate the nuptials. Called a Sequel Wedding.
A minimony includes an officiant, a small group of loved ones (usually around 10), and occasionally with select vendors, your larger wedding would consist of.
What Is a Sequel Wedding?
After your minimony, you will begin to plan “for your sequel wedding, or the original wedding that you had planned prior to the pandemic. The Knot first defined the term in 2019 largely for couples deciding to have two distinct weddings for cultural, religious and other reasons. However, the sequel wedding has evolved, taking on new meaning as the coronavirus pandemic has prompted many to-be-weds to reconsider the order of their life events. There is no better time than now to create your own rules.”
Hosting a minimony gives you the option of getting married and solidifying your union to honor your first proposed date. And to, hopefully, not lose those venue and vendor deposits you have made. Then in 2021, you can schedule a sequel wedding that will bring your wedding vision to life with all the family and friends.
